An repeat article on Damn Interesting today references Toynbee tiles, which have been appearing embedded in roads around the world since the 1980s. The article links to a Kansas City Star article from 2003 about our very own Toynbee tile, which is apparently located at roughly 13th and Grand.

I don’t get downtown much (ever), but I am curious – is this tile still there? If so, way cool. If not, what a bummer. I have no idea what the creator of these tiles was trying to get across, but the idea that someone has planted nearly 130 of these things all over everywhere, including Kansas City, is definitely damn interesting.

More on Toynbee tiles here.
